More needs to be done to start pathway to diagnosing. Some waiting times to the start of assessments is 2 years plus. Which is no benefit to anyone. Assessments should start a maximum of 6 months from referral for assessment. As far as the actual time it then takes to be assessed and get a diagnosis. There should not be a time limit. Autism effects every person differently. Some are 'classically' autistic and easy to diagnose. Whereas others like my little girl present their autism in an a typical and unusual way. It took 13 months of assessments and observations. Which I'm glad about as if it had to be done to a time frame I do think she would have been given a diagnosis. |

Having only one set of assessments for classically presenting autism. And many being turned down because they give okay eye contact or appear social. It is proven that girls copy and mimic behaviours to make it appear as if they are coping socially and often go under the radar because of this. There needs to be more than one set of criteria for diagnosing autism. |
